APICES 2016 - University of Michigan TOP

Each year, the APICES host institution selects one to three residents to co-chair the APICES Planning Committee. In conjunction with the other residents in the program, these resident leaders handle a majority of the tasks associated with planning APICES. Planning Committee Chair Dr. Darya Dabiri worked closely with AAE staff, her co-residents and several members of the School of Dentistry’s faculty, including Dr. Neville McDonald, to plan a great meeting for 2016. Dr. Darya Dabiri was born and raised in Iran. She immigrated to Canada in 1998 and completed her undergraduate dental training at the University of British Columbia in 2008. She completed her general practice residency at the University of Michigan in 2009 and received a Master of Science degree in pediatric dentistry from the University of Toledo Medical Center in 2012. Darya, who is a diplomate with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, is currently in her second year of the School of Dentistry’s Graduate Program in Endodontics at the University of Michigan. She is a child advocate, and she is determined to build a bridge between the two specialties for a better quality of care in pediatric endodontics. When not learning about endodontics, Darya enjoys being a mom and spending time with her wonderful husband Dr Andre’ Haerian, an orthodontist, and her two beautiful children, 6-year-old Reza and 3-year-old Roya.
Dr. Carolina Cucco is Brazilian. She received her dental degree in 2009 from UPF University in Passo Fundo, Brazil, and she completed her endodontic training in 2011 at PUCRS Pontificia Universidade Católica in Porto Alegre, Brazil. She then pursued her Ph.D. in endodontics at PUCRS with research training at the Angiogenesis Resarch Laboratory at the University of Michigan. Carolina is currently in her first year of seeking the Advanced Specialty Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Ryan McMahan is from Newdale, North Carolina. Ryan earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Michigan, completed a general practice residency at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, and is a second-year endodontic resident once again at the University of Michigan. Ryan enjoys writing abstracts, golfing, playing guitar, working out and spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Hassan Yehia was raised in Dearborn, Michigan. Hassan attended Wayne State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. After graduating from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 2013, he worked as a general dentist for a couple of years. During that time, his passion for endodontics grew, and he decided to pursue specialty training in the field. He is a currently a first-year resident at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Dmitry Vodopyanov grew up in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and he went on to complete both his undergraduate and dental school education at the University of Michigan. After obtaining his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, Dmitry continued gaining experience and education with an incredibly rewarding position as a general practice resident at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Ann Arbor. Dmitry developed a keen interest in endodontic therapy and decided to return to the University of Michigan to pursue a Master of Science degree in Endodontics. He is currently a first-year resident at the University of Michigan. In his free time, Dmitry enjoys traveling, cheering on Michigan sports teams and spending time with his family and friends.
Dr. Hooman Rabiee is Persian. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium in 1994. Hooman practiced comprehensive general dentistry until 2015 when his passion for endodontics led him to pursue specialty training at the University of Michigan. He relocated from Belgium to Ann Arbor along with his beautiful wife, Hengameh, and two wonderful children, Tiffany and Attila. Hooman enjoys cooking, traveling and spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Anna DeGraft-Johnson earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Medical University of Lodz in Poland in 2004. Subsequently, Anna earned her Master of Public Administration in Health from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. Anna worked in private practice as a general dentist for eight years in Poland and Norway. She then served an endodontic internship at the University of Texas in Houston before joining the Graduate Program in Endodontics at the University of Michigan. In her free hours, Anna enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and reading.
Dr. Michael Shapiro was born and raised in Calgary, Canada. He completed his undergraduate dental training at the University of Manitoba in 1999, followed by an advanced education in general dentistry residency at the University of Michigan in 2000. Michael practiced comprehensive general dentistry until 2013 when his passion for endodontics led him to pursue specialty training. Having just recently completed a three-year master’s degree at the University of Michigan’s Graduate Program in Endodontics, he will be practicing with a local endodontic group and serving as a part-time faculty member at the University of Michigan. When not practicing or teaching endodontics, Michael enjoys golfing, reading and spending time with his beautiful wife Lainie, a local orthodontist, and two wonderful children, 11-year-old Jacob and 9-year-old Maddie.
